Sharing Time!

My real name is Ellie and I married a man named Carl.  He was my college sweetheart and we’ve been very happy.  Today is our anniversary.

Up came out in theaters a few months before he proposed.  He had just graduated college and I was getting ready to enjoy my last summer before graduating myself.  The first 5 minutes of that movie are beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.  And it was like watching us.  I know it seems that a lot of people say that kind of thing but it’s true.  I am wild and bubbly and talkative and artistic.  Carl is quiet, reserved, and sweet.  We make jokes that I never heard him speak until our 5th date.  And this moment is seriously what our wedding looked like.  His family behaving reserved and calm and my family losing it and ready to party.

When we saw the movie together after the Married Life montage I was in tears.  Who wasn’t?  Suddenly I felt a kiss on my cheek as Carl had leaned over to tell me he loved me.  He had tears in his eyes.  Afterwards he told me that when (Spoiler) Ellie dies, that he felt his heart break because it was like watching me die.  ”She is you.  It’s like they took their inspiration from our life.”

When he proposed a few months later, is was beautiful and romantic and perfect.  As we sat dreaming about plans he said, “I think we should have an Up wedding.”  And I ran with it.  He wore an Ellie Badge, we had balloons and flowers everywhere, it was colorful and bright, our favors were little tin mailboxes with candy in them, and (my favorite part) we waltzed around the ballroom to the song from the Married Life montage.

It’s been 3 amazing years since the best day of my life.  And what a crazy 3 years it has been!  Carl has supported all my animation dreams and been my best friend since the day I met him.  I couldn’t ask for better. And I know it’s cheesy, but I felt today of all days should be the one I tell the world.

I think that Up means more to us than anyone will ever really know.  We watch it together every year for our anniversary and we hold hands and we cry at all the little moments.  Most people have songs, but we have a movie.  This is our movie.

Happy Anniversary, Carl.  I love you.

Here’s to the rest of our adventure together.

You are good at something, stop lying to yourself. You’re good at breaking down comic book plots, cooking ramen perfectly, making your friends happy, knowing the time without looking at a clock, getting the perfect ending at RPG’s, or figuring out the twist ending to movies. Don’t let society tell you your talents are meaningless because they don’t serve an economical purpose. Your talents reflect your interests and passions, and what’s important to you is important.

I took my mom to see Frozen and, naturally, fell in love with Kristoff. It was shockingly cold here in Hawaii when I drew this. Need a big warm heart.
